New Edition! Updated & Expanded

For more than a decade, our practical, motivating, and kid-friendly Superflex Curriculum has been a core resource for teaching students about flexibility, self-awareness, social interpretation, metacognition, executive functions, and self-regulation. This updated and expanded Superflex® 2nd Edition Kit: Curriculum, Storybook, and Visuals augments the available resources and enhances support for educators, therapists, and parents through a suite of print and digital teaching materials.

The 25 interactive quests that make up the curriculum help students transform abstract thinking into concrete strategies as they learn prosocial and proactive ways to figure out how people work, learn, and play together from a social and emotional perspective.

The Superflex Curriculum is built around 14 UnthinkaBot characters, who represent struggles that all people face (grownups too!), and 14 Thinkable characters, who represent the flexible thinking and strategies that allow us all to manage these daily struggles. By activating “Thinkable” strategies, students transform into their own “Superflex” superhero character who allows them to self-regulate in various situations and meet their own personal and social goals.

With hands-on activities, digital and visual supports, extension activities, and evidence-informed lessons, both students and educators have found this new Superflex Curriculum and Teaching Guide helpful in tackling social learning and self-regulation.

Why people around the world are using the Superflex Curriculum

Superflex products provide a fun forum in which everyone can explore their own super-strengths while developing insights into the UnthinkaBots and their Bot powers. This second edition curriculum and storybook contain many significant updates and reflect extensive changes for how to teach. The interactive lessons foster inquiry-based learning with hands-on, multisensory lessons and teaching tools which can be used in classrooms, clinics, community centers, and homes. We hope you find this new resource not only much more user-friendly, but also a curriculum with tighter fidelity, making it easier for consistency of use in real-time settings. The updated language and emphasis on teaching with a strength-building focus in this 2nd edition provides lessons/quests perfect for use in the classroom, home, or clinic. The quests can also be used in small groups or individual sessions.

Who is it for?

The curriculum is intended for ages 7 to 10+ who are solid language users (verbal, sign, augmentative, etc.). Those who will benefit the most are students whose receptive and expressive language and cognitive skills allow for basic interpretation of abstract information, including thinking about one’s own and others’ thoughts, feelings, and intentions. The series is a good fit for all neurotypes in large and small group settings.

How do I teach the Dynamic Duo of the Superflex Series?

IMPORTANT: The first book in the Superflex Series is the multiple award-winning You Are a Social Detective! storybook, which builds a core foundation of social awareness needed before going to the Superflex Academy. Its companion Teaching Curriculum & Support Guide provides 10 fun, structured lesson plans and visual tools to support building students’ social attention, social interpretation, and self-awareness—the foundation for social learning for everyone. The Superflex Curriculum, storybook, and visuals are designed to be used only after students have practiced being a “social detective.”

After introducing Social Detective concepts, move on to the Superflex Curriculum and Teaching Guide. The opening quests prime the learning and introduce students to the Superflex Academy and the idea of transforming into their own Superflexes. The character pair quests that follow introduce the storybook and the 14 different UnthinkaBot and Thinkable pairings and their powers. Ready, set, go! The final quests tie everything together with students powering up their flexible thinking and learning about how to use Thinkable strategies to manage and send UnthinkaBots to Sleeper Pods to hibernate. The first five lessons should be taught in a sequential manner, and then subsequent lessons can be tailored to the classroom, group, or individual.

Note: This curriculum may not be a good fit for very young children, those who are just learning to combine words, or emerging language users. Many of the Superflex Series curriculum lessons have a heavy language and metacognitive load.

Superflex is ME and YOU, and YOU, too!

It’s important to teach that students’ Superflexes look like they do. The Superflexes in the storybook are Jaden and Olivia’s Superflexes (and their sidekicks, Super Woof and Super Otis).
